That Wasn't Very Data-Driven Of You — Calligraphy
Dark
Light
One sentence, stacked one word at a time, centred and set in a formal
calligraphic italic — the typeface of wedding invitations, place cards and
certificates of achievement. It reads: THAT wasn't very data-driven of you.
The gap between the words and the lettering is the whole joke. The sentence is
internet-speak — the "that wasn't very ___ of you" construction, faintly
passive-aggressive, the sort of thing typed into a group chat with a full stop
at the end. The lettering is the most ceremonious thing a printer owns. Putting
a mild public telling-off into the typography of a formal invitation makes it
land like one: engraved, unhurried, and impossible to argue with.
The line breaks carry the tone. One word per line is how the sentence is
actually said out loud — deliberately, each word landing before the next — and
the opening THAT is capitalised because that is where the stress goes.
No chart. Its sibling design puts the same line over a scatter plot with the
crime drawn on it. This one does not explain itself, because a sentence this
passive-aggressive should not have to.
For data scientists, analysts, statisticians, and anyone who has watched a
decision arrive wearing a chart it did not need. Printed in white on dark or
black on light.
